Sam Denly expects leaders Peacehaven & Telscombe to provide a tough challenge at Winch’s Field on Saturday – if the game goes ahead.

The Herne Bay manager said: “I gather they have got a bit of money and finances are a massive advantage in this league.

“They have done well and are a decent, well-organised team with one of the best strikers in the league in Charlie Walker. It will be tough.”

Peacehaven have taken the Ryman League, Division 1 South by storm in their first season. Walker’s 27 goals have been the catalyst for the east Sussex side’s rise to the top and could give the Bay defenders a tricky afternoon, although the weather could again be the only winner.

As far as Saturday’s game is concerned, Denly is fearful that another dire weather forecast will scupper his side’s chances of ending a near two-month spell without a home game.

He said: “We need to start playing our home games and stop the rot we are in (following four successive away defeats) but there is every chance the game will be off.”

More heavy rain fell overnight on Tuesday and again yesterday (Wednesday) and with more predicted ahead of the weekend, Denly could again be left frustrated.

Midfielder Ben Brown is available to face Peacehaven, after waiting nearly two months to serve a three-match ban, following his sending-off against Guernsey before Christmas.
