Kent Cricket batsman Joe Denly looking forward to double-header against Lancashire in Royal London One-Cup and NatWest T20 Blast

Joe Denly says Saturday’s 50-over clash with Lancashire is a useful glimpse of what they might encounter in the T20 quarter-final a week later.
Kent will face the Lightning in the Royal London One-Day Cup (10.30am) just seven days ahead of their NatWest T20 Blast knockout game and the opener said: “It will be a good little warm-up game for the quarter-final.
“We don’t play against Lancashire too often in white-ball cricket, so it will be a good chance to have a run-out against them before the big day.
“The quarter-final is going to be a great day and we’re all looking forward to it.”
Denly has caught the eye recently cracking 70 last time out in T20 cricket and scoring 175 runs in four innings in the 50-over competition, including 48 in Sunday’s big win over Sussex at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence.
The 29-year-old said he wasn’t “too frustrated” not to have reached three figures and predicted: “I’d like to think there’s a big one round the corner.
“On Sunday I thought the pitch did a bit with the new ball, so I looked to be as positive as I could and looked to put a dent in the small target as much as I could.
“Luckily, it came off. A few came off the middle and we got off to a good start, which enabled the others to work it around.
“It was a fantastic win and we look to take it on even more now.
“We’ve played some brilliant cricket, especially in the white-ball form. We were unlucky against Glamorgan with that rain break and against Middlesex we didn’t turn up at all.
“It’s always tough with the schedule but we’re not making excuses – we need to be as clinical as we were against Sussex more often.
“In saying that, we’ve been pretty good, one of the best teams, in white-ball cricket, in the country.”
