Herne Bay may have only taken one point from their opening two league games but manager Sam Denly is feeling far from despondent ahead of Saturday’s trip to Worthing.

After losing 1-0 at home to Guernsey at the weekend, Bay had the better of a goalless draw at Tooting & Mitcham on Tuesday night.

Denly said: “We deserved something out of the Guernsey game and then, on Tuesday, I can’t speak too highly of the lads. We were superb. We created lots of chances, had a couple cleared off the line and their keeper played well.

“I said to the lads at half-time, ‘let’s make sure this doesn’t turn out to be Guernsey all over again and we end up with nothing,’ and to be fair, we battered them in the second
half..

Denly added: “I was happy after with a point away from home after going up to London midweek and it means we are off and running.”

Bay’s opponents this Saturday, Worthing, have yet to gain a point having lost 1-0 at Corinthian-Casuals on Saturday before slumping to a 4-0 home defeat against league newcomers Peacehaven & Telscombe on Tuesday.

Denly, insisted, however: “I’m not going to read too much into Worthing’s first two results.
“They are always a decent side and will be wanting to kick-start their season on Saturday.
“We’ve just got to go there and make sure that doesn’t happen and we will go there full of
confidence.”

Bay will be without defender Nathan Eastwood, who is unavailable, but otherwise Denly has a full squad to pick from.
