Canterbury Golf Club members Wendy Dorries and Colin Dawson were dealt a pair of aces last week.

On Monday, 19 handicap former seniors captain Dawson holed his five-wood tee shot at Canterbury’s fifth hole, while partnering Frank Hixson in a friendly fourball against Ray Lloyd and Bob Staples.

It was a second ace for the 76-year-old from Westbere, who also holed-in-one at Canterbury’s eighth hole three years ago.

Dorries meanwhile was left ''gob-smacked'' after sinking her tee shot for her first ever ace, on the long, uphill par three 17th, playing with her husband John at Canterbury on Saturday.

Dorries, who plays off 26 and whose home is near Margate, holed out with a driver.

She said: ''I'm still feeling a bit gob-smacked to be honest, it hasn't really sunk in yet.

''It's the first hole-in-one I have ever had and didn't really believe it had gone in because you can't see the hole from the tee. I knew I'd hit it really sweet though.''

They were both spared the traditional – and expensive – round of drinks for everyone at the bar however, because it is shut during the lockdown.
