James Taylor has been spotted watching the first day of Kent's Specsavers County Championship match against Middlesex at Lord's.
The 28-year-old former England and Nottinghamshire batter was appointed to the role of England selector in July.
Two players that could be on his radar in that match are Kent's Joe Denly and Middlesex's Nick Gubbins.
Both have been talked about in recent weeks about possible England call-ups for the overseas tour to Sri Lanka this winter.
Gubbins failed to impress on the opening morning at Lord's, loosely driving Matt Henry to slip after making just 17.
On a day when 19 wickets fell, Denly also went cheaply with the bat, trapped in front for nine by former England pace man Steve Finn to one that kept low from the pavilion end.
It was reported that Taylor also watched Kent's match at Leicestershire in August specifically to get a closer look at Denly.
Denly has been in fine form this season and has scored 749 runs in the Championship this season, including three hundreds, and has also taken 17 wickets at an average of 21.23.
He also led the way for the Spitfires in the Vitality Blast competition with the most runs (409) and wickets (20).
The all-rounder hit 492 runs on Kent’s way to the Royal London One-Day Cup final and also broke a club record with his 150 not out in the group stages. He also took 14 wickets during the competition.
