Canterbury’s Fusion Martial Arts make big mark at the World Kickboxing Organisation European Championships in Barnsley

Canterbury’s Fusion Martial Arts made a mark at the World Kickboxing Organisation (WKO) European Championships - a prestigious ring sports event which brought together fighters from across the globe.
The team showcased their skills against stiff competition, leaving a lasting impression on spectators and opponents alike.
With six rings in use and 60 fights per ring throughout the event in Barnsley on Saturday, April 27, the stage was set for an exhilarating showcase of prowess in disciplines such as kickboxing, K1, Thai boxing and boxing.
Five of the seven Fusion Martial Arts fighters became new European champions, the team proving their mettle. A fighter also secured a silver while another came third.
A shining moment belonged to young Danny Tucker (40kg category), who, in his inaugural bout, exhibited remarkable tenacity to secure a well-deserved silver.
Zachary James (55kg category) showcased unwavering focus as he elegantly claimed gold.
Battling through five tough rounds against two opponents, his display epitomised style and finesse.
Freddie Burns (70kg category) took bronze. He was edged out by the 2023 grand champion while Charlie Day (70kg category) was another to come out on top.
Others to triumph were Jacob Stevens (65kg category), Archie Redgrove (80kg category) and Riley McMillan (60kg category), who stunned spectators with his remarkable victory, rounding off the day for Fusion Martial Arts.
McMillan’s journey, which began aged five, showcased a relentless determination, especially evident in his awe-inspiring sidekick combinations.
Darren Stevens, Fusion Martial Arts’ head coach, expressed immense pride.
He said: “The triumph at the WKO European Championships, not only highlights Canterbury’s martial arts prowess, but also exemplifies Fusion Martial Arts’ commitment to excellence and camaraderie.
“As the team returns home, adorned with medals and memories, they carry with
them the spirit of Fusion Martial Arts - a spirit defined by passion, perseverance and the relentless pursuit of greatness.”
Fusion Martial Arts’ journey continues as they gear up for their next challenge, with five fighters competing at the British Taekwondo Championships.
