Two half-centuries from Kent’s Zak Crawley were not good enough for England in their second Test defeat in India.

Opening batsman Crawley, who turned 26 during the match at the ACA-VDCA Stadium, top scored in both England innings - but they were beaten by 106 runs.

Set a target of 399 runs for victory on Monday, Crawley helped give Ben Stokes’ side hope of another unlikely run-chase with 73 before he was controversially trapped lbw by Kuldeep Yadav (1-60) as they went from 132-2 to 194-6 and eventually were dismissed for 292 all out.

The former Tonbridge School pupil had blasted 76 from 78 balls in England’s first-innings 253 all out but then was caught by Shreyas Iyer off Axar Patel (1-24).

With the five-game series now level at 1-1, Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot, will be the venue for the next Test of the five-game series from next Thursday.
