Harry Podmore has paid tribute to the collective effort of Kent's bowling attack following his match figures of 8-123 against Warwickshire.

The 24-year-old, whose career-best match figures are 8-110, produced a second innings five-fer to drive the club towards its first Division 1 win in eight years.

He is once again reaping the benefits of healthy competition in Canterbury having seen his 43 First Class wickets at 23.30 in 2018 second only to Matt Henry.

"It was awesome, every time you contribute to the team it feels slightly special," admitted Podmore.

"Confidence is a massive thing, having the backing of the coaches and me playing more games, bowling more overs and getting more experience can only help me improve.

"We felt we should have won our first game of the year against Somerset, so for a couple of youngsters in Zak Crawley (108) and Ollie Robinson (143) to come in as well and have such a difference was great.

"We showed last week what a good team we are by performing so well against a good Somerset side. We worked hard over the winter and tried not to put too much emphasis on the difference between Division 1 and Division 2."

Besides Podmore's excellence with the ball, Matt Milnes also made a defining impact by claiming the wickets of Tim Ambrose (107) and Henry Brookes (84) to end an increasingly-frustrating final day partnership.

This followed on from Mitch Claydon's career-high 9-112 against Somerset at Taunton in underlining the plethora of bowling options at head coach Matt Walker's disposal.

Podmore added:"It took a lot of patience, they (Warwickshire) were allowed to have partnerships and we knew it was a batting wicket, we said we had to remain patient and stick to what we were doing.

"The encouraging thing is that it's not only one or two people, it's a few of us. Everyone is putting their hand in and contributing.

"We've had one wicket that was quite conducive to seam bowling and another that wasn't, but I think we've got a bowling attack that can perform on all wickets."

The former Middlesex man is now preparing for the Royal London One-Day Cup having been named in Kent's squad for Wednesday's opener against Hampshire.

He said: "It's exciting, it's a replay of last season's final so it doesn't get much better than that, we're looking forward to getting started."
