Kent Cricket head coach Matt Walker says county are trying to sign overseas player for remainder of Vitality Blast T20 campaign

06:00, 25 August 2019

Matt Walker says Kent have not given up hope of bringing in an overseas player for the remainder of their Vitality Blast T20 campaign.

The loss of injured New Zealand paceman Adam Milne, following the departure of Afghanistan allrounder Mohammad Nabi, meant the county went into Friday's game against Surrey without an overseas player.

Kent have two South Group games remaining and head coach Walker says they are doing everything they can to bring in a new face before the first of those, against Gloucestershire at Canterbury on Thursday (7pm). They travel to Chelmsford to face Essex the following evening.

Walker said "We're still trying hard, we're moving forward hopefully but it's been an immense struggle to try and find somebody, (there's) just not been the people out there that are able to come.

"We've tried lots of avenues but there's lots of international cricket going on at the moment, there's lots of other competitions.

"Obviously people are resting at this point of the season etc etc so we've really tried every avenue.

"Hopefully we'll get something. If we can it would be great, if not then we'll just carry on as we do."

Walker admitted a bowler would be Kent's preferred option.

He added: "We've been trying to look for that (a bowler) but without much luck. We'll see what we get.

"We're trying to bring in a world class player that's going to make a difference but it is hard.

"Trying to get visas at late notice is so difficult because you can't guarantee them being on time.

"We've just got to try and find someone who we can get here for two games and hopefully through the quarter-finals and onwards."
