Kent Cricket League round-up: Beckenham clinch title but Canterbury are relegated

Canterbury's relegation from the Premier Division was confirmed on Saturday as they lost by 112 runs at Tunbridge Wells.

Christopher Williams and Julian O'Riordan produced a key partnership as the hosts finished 208 all out after opting to bat first.

The visitors saw just four batsmen reach double figures in reply, eventually being dismissed for just 96 to end the campaign second bottom.

Williams (48) and O'Riordan (59) set the tone with 88 between them before the former was caught by Bradley Goldsack off Justin MacVicar.

Alexander Williams provided another 26 alongside 25 from Michael Waller to take their side to 208.

MacVicar had been Canterbury's top performer with the ball, taking 3-23 from his 10 over spell.

MacVicar (16) and Stuart Drakeley (10) opened with 30 until both were bowled by Isaac Bepey, who finished with figures of 4-22.

Isaac Dilkes, a shining light for Canterbury throughout a tough season, top scored with 23 before he was caught by Matthew Barker off Marcus O'Riordan.

Seven single-digit scores ultimately saw Canterbury bowled out for 96 after 29.5 overs.

Beckenham sealed the Premier Division title with a two-wicket victory over Sandwich at Foxgrove.

Having elected to bat, Sandwich lost Finley Beaman for a duck but recovered with 66 from fellow opener Zack Fagg alongside 10 from Kent's Jordan Cox.

Cox was first caught and bowled by Kent teammate Alex Blake, who trapped Fagg lbw shortly after.

Grant Stewart added 26 by the time he was caught and bowled by Johan Malcolm, who went on to take 3-6 from his five overs.

Mahi Mahfuzul also claimed three wickets as Sandwich were bowled out for 155.

Beckenham opener Alex Senn's innings came to an end for 30 following a catch from Cameron Fletcher off the bowling of Ashleigh Cox.

Five more wickets then fell before Will MacVicar was dismissed for 54 from 76 balls as the champions' top scorer.

He left Beckenham on 148-8 when he was beaten lbw by Craig Spanton, however his side were still able to reach a winning score of 159-8.

Ollie Robinson hit a superb century as Bexley secured second place with a 92-run win at home to Bickley Park.

Kent's wicketkeeper-batsman fired an unbeaten 130 from 149 deliveries, receiving support along the way from Adam Riley (28), George Haley (60) and Adam Ball (39 not out) as Bexley closed on 271-2.

Bickley slumped to 28-7 in response as Jason Benn worked towards figures of 4-13 from his six overs.

No.8 Mick King (44) and No.9 Daniel Magin (83) attempted to repair Bickley's innings, only for their side to be dismissed on 179.

Canterbury's defeat to Tunbridge saw Blackheath retain their place in the division despite losing by two wickets to Lordswood.

Having elected to bat, Blackheath slipped to 10-2 after losing Daniel Bell-Drummond and Chris Willetts cheaply.

Tanweer Sikandar led the recovery with 109 from 123 deliveries while Mohammad Ashraful chipped in with 33.

Rishi Roy-Mukherjee also contributed 54 but Mirza Baig's 4-45 would prove key as Blackheath were bowled out for 240.

Edward Taylor (28) and Linden Lockhart (29) got Lordswood off to a steady start in reply before the latter was trapped lbw by Sikandar who, having starred with the bat, also took 4-48.

Michael French and Jack Laraman hit 55 apiece, both eventually being bowled by Sikandar.

Baig managed an unbeaten 26 to take Lordswood over the line on 241-8 after 50 overs.

Relegated HSBC finished the season on a high with a six-wicket victory over fourth-placed Sevenoaks Vine.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Vine were led out by a 93-run partnership between Evert Bekker (84) and Christopher Vernon (50).

Vernon was first to depart when he was trapped lbw by Sadiq Hassan, with Adam Rouse going lbw to Wajid Shah for 36 and Ishmail September then bowling Bekker to leave Vine on 193-3.

Vikas Kokkiligadda (34) and Tom Coldman (26) also produced useful knocks before their side were bowled out for 293, Richard Golbourn taking 3-60.

HSBC also enjoyed a strong start with the bat, opening duo Sam Perks (25) and Golbourn (75) hitting 84 between them.

Skipper Hassan's 72, Alan Slater's unbeaten 71 and Matt Abbett's unbeaten 29 secured the victory at 294-4 with three balls to spare.
