Despite his links to the county, Kent will not be making a move to sign England batsman Kevin Pietersen, who is set to make a return to the county game.
The 34-year-old was axed by the ECB more than a year ago, however the appointment of new chairman Colin Graves has led to hope that the door to an international return might not be closed for the South African-born star, whose mother hails from Kent, if he were to return to full-time domestic cricket.
Speaking on a visit to the city before Christmas, Pietersen said: "Mum was born here in Canterbury, so it’s got a spot in my heart.
“It’s always nice to come back here. I always think of mum when I come back.”
He also paid tribute to the Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence, where he last appeared for Surrey last July.
He said: "It’s an interesting ground. Everybody knows it around the world because of the tree in the outfield. I’ve got some fond memories. I’ve got some runs here. I’ve also got out for nothing here too. It’s a beautiful ground."
However, although a Kent spokesman insisted on Tuesday that the club do not comment on speculation, it is understand the club have 'no interest' in making a move for England's record run-scorer in all forms of the game.
The former Surrey batsman's return to the domestic game could be further complicated by his scheduled involvement in the Indian Premier League in April and May, while he is also due to participate in the Caribbean Premier League through June and July.
