Jen Wilson says Canterbury Ladies face their toughest task of the Investec National Premier Division on Saturday (2pm) when they visit Surbiton for a top-of-the-table clash.

The Polo Farm club lie second after Saturday’s 2-0 win over Buckingham, two points behind the Surrey side, who beat them in the final of last season’s play-offs.

Player-coach Wilson said: “On paper they are the strongest team in the league and this is definitely our toughest game of the season. They are looking really strong and not many teams will go there and pick up three points.

“To come away with any points from Surbiton away is a solid performance.”

She added: “It’s still early days though and the league is extremely tight – a win wouldn’t mean they are out of the running and neither would we be were they to win.”

Meanwhile, Wilson revealed Sarah Kerly has been rewarded for her sparkling early-season form with international recognition.

The forward – who has developed a promising attacking partnership with Dirkie Chamberlain – has already scored four league goals this season, having missed the 2013/14 campaign as she studied for a masters at Syracuse University in the USA.

Wilson revealed: “She has done really well for us this season and she got a call from one of the members of the coaching team from the England hockey development programme inviting her to join trials.

“I believe she’ll be going up for something like eight sessions and will get the chance to train with some of the GB central programme. It’s a fantastic opportunity for her and reward for some good performances.”
