Steve Lloyd eagled the 18th to shoot a stunning gross 66 (net 61) for a four-shot victory in Canterbury Golf Club’s Style Cup men’s medal.

Lloyd birdied the second but dropped shots at the fourth and seventh before back to back birdies saw him reach to reach the turn at one under.

Further birdies at the 14th and 16th took him to three under but he saved the best until last, chipping in from 10 yards for a three.

He said: "After I got to two-under at the 14th I started to feel nervous and had to tell myself to calm down and hold it together.

"The 18th really capped it. I hit a really good drive but got a horrible bounce left into the trees. I tried to cut the second one but hit it too straight and it finished about 10 yards past the pin up the bank at the back. I hit a little 56 degrees wedge and it just caught the slope and ran down into the cup.’’

It was hard lines for Style Cup second placed Connor Bundock (h16), who missed out on countback in last Wednesday’s Midweek Stableford to Josh Bristow’s gross 65.

On Sunday he dropped six shots on the last four holes, including a triple bogey seven at the 16th for another second, beating Paul Stewart (h10) on countback.

Bristow scored eagles at the first and last in Wednesday’s Men Stableford for 38 points in his first home competition after a pressure cooker fortnight which saw him finish in the top-10 in the Brabazon Trophy, the English Men’s Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship and then reach the last 16 of the Amateur Championship.

Luke McIntosh praised team-mate Peter Bundock’s "unbelievable" short game after they teamed up with Connor Bundock and Jack Reed to win Monday's Bank Holiday Team Waltz Stableford, with 118 point, winning by two from Paul Stewart, Benji Heaton, Russell Stannard and Liam Holland.

Alyson Wreford scored a net 66 to pip defending champion Charlotte Launois by one shot to win the Ladies’ Mount Harvest Cup medal on Saturday.

Amanda Pilbeam birdied the third on her way to a level-par net 71 to win the Ladies’ September Medal and, with it, the Connie Groves Rose Bowl last Wednesday.

Meanwhile, newcomer David Price emerged as the winner of Ashford Golf Club’s Alex Moon Trophy - the first of four competitions held last week.

A large field of veterans competed but 28 handicapper Price carded 40 points, two clear of section stalwarts Tony Rawbone, Andy Harrison and Tony Rubbo, who were separated by card countback. The Ladies Captain’s Day saw 42 players taking to the Fairways, with Beryl Sutherland coming out on top with her fine score of 41 points.

Virginia Zlabiene was second (38 points) and Janet James (36) claimed third.

The Ladies September Medal was won by Elaine Campbell with her nett score of 73 whilst Jenny Spedding was second on 76, just pipping Tina Brookes and Tracyann Wood who returned a nett score of 77.

The men were in action on Sunday in the popular Bertie Flower Foursomes event where the pairing of Mike Hodges and James Major edged home on countback from Mike Ward and Daryll Bartholmew. Both duos posted a score of 68.5.

Just half a point adrift were Liam Tegg and David Foad and yet again Jason Barnes alongside Stuart Biden featured in the lowest gross of the competition.
