Kent’s teenage skiing sensation Millie Knight has been selected for the top three in BBC’s Young Sports Personality of the Year 2017, writes Josh Fordham.

The visually impaired skier, from Canterbury, has had a phenomenal year by winning downhill gold at the Para-alpine skiing championships earlier this year, which was the first ever gold for a British Para-skier. She also won silver medals in the giant slalom, slalom and super-combined events.

Millie, 18, had been nominated for the award alongside star gymnast Ellie Downie, under-17 World Cup winning captain Phil Foden, and 18-year-old Welsh football international Ben Woodburn.

She competed at the Paralympic Games in Sochi in 2014 where she also was given the honour of carrying Great Britain’s flag in the opening ceremony.

In March 2018, Millie will be heading to her second Paralympic Games in Pyeonchang, South Korea, where she will be looking to add to her growing medal collection.

The winner of Young Sports Personality Of The Year 2017 will be announced on Sunday, December 17. Phil Foden and Ellie Down join Millie in the top three.
