New American Football team seeks recruits

00:00, 26 August 2004

PLAYERS are being sought for a new American Football team whose home venue will be in Canterbury.

The East Kent Falcons will train and play at Kent University. They plan to enter the British Senior League and compete in the South East division alongside Maidstone, the Kent Exiles, Southend, Chiltern, Sussex, Colchester and Basildon

The club have already attracted players from Canterbury, Herne Bay, Whitstable, Sandwich and Dover and are due to hold their first training session at the university on Sunday, September 5.

Glenn Lindley, one of the men behind the team, explained: “The first training session is open to anyone who wishes to come down meet the coaches and have a few hours training to help gain an understanding of the game.

“We currently have around 12 guys interested and need to recruit 25 or more new players to succeed. No previous experience is necessary. We have qualified coaches who can teach just about anyone how to play.

“We will of course welcome players that have played in the past and also need people to take on administrative and team management roles.”

Further details about the team may be obtained from Glenn Lindley via email EKFalcons@hotmail.com or Bob Mathews on 0771 8337075.
