Harry Podmore was delighted to contribute to Kent’s stunning nine-wicket victory over Nottinghamshire in the quarter-final of Royal London One-Day Cup.

Podmore took a career best of 4-57 as the Spitfires restricted their hosts to 255-8 from 50 overs.

It was just his second game in the 50-over competition this season after he was drafted into the starting 11 late on.

Podmore said: “I wasn’t down to play. We came off the back of a long four day came and Mitch (Claydon) has been playing in the white ball stuff but unfortunately his groin was a bit sore so it was nice to get the nod.

“It was bowler friendly conditions and it was a good toss to win and we bowled first. I think that helped in our favour with our seam bowlers. There was a little bit of nip and the new ball skids on.

“I’m really enjoying my time at Kent. My aim was to come here and try and perform and play as much I can and contribute. When I do that it feels good.”

Fellow new signing Heino Kuhn scored an unbeaten century as the Kent batters chased down the runs with ease.

Nottinghamshire were the reigning holders of the competition and the Spitfires were the only team from Division 2 to make it to the final six.

Podmore said: “They are a very good side but so are we. We might be underrated a little bit and the group of players we have right now is special. Right now we are coming together.

“Daniel (Bell-Drummond) complement Heino very well as Heino got off to a flyer. Then Joe came in at the end. It was fantastic to watch and just shows what a good unit we are at the moment.”

Kent now travel to Worcestershire for the semi-final of the Royal London One-Day Cup and a potential selection headache for head coach Matt Walker.

Podmore added: “Hopefully I can perform when called upon. If Mitch is fit for Sunday and they go with him I’m behind him 100%. Whoever gets chosen on the day you just have to try and perform at your best.

“I’m very delighted with how it has started for me at Kent. I would have liked a few more wickets in the Championship but that’s the way it goes and hopefully my day will come. We are bowling well in partnerships and that’s all I can ask for.”
