Andy Pratt says Canterbury Rugby Club have to ‘finish the job’ they have started on a potentially defining day in National 2 South on Saturday.

The city club are one of four teams battling to avoid the final relegation place but a run of six wins and a draw in their last 10 games has seen them rise from the bottom three to three places and nine points clear of Lydney, who sit third-bottom.

While Canterbury are hosting Launceston, sat 10th, five points ahead, at Merton Lane on Saturday (3pm), the Gloucestershire strugglers head to promotion-chasing Bishop’s Stortford.

Should the city club better Lydney’s result, they will ensure their survival in the division with two games to spare and Pratt said: “It’s a question of finishing the job we have started.

“We want to do it in front of our home crowd who have been fantastic. The travelling support at Southend, in particular, was a big contributor to us getting a result there.

“Launceston will be hard but we are capable of winning. Whether that is enough to secure our safety depends on what happens at Bishop’s Stortford.

“We won’t get score updates, we’ll find out after – we just want to focus on our own performance.”
