James Tredwell could make his ICC World Cup bow in the next few days as England seek to secure their first win and revive hopes of a quarter-final spot.
Kent spinner Tredwell, who turns 33 next week, was omitted for England’s 111-run defeat against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Saturday morning, despite taking wickets in both warm-up matches in the lead up to the tournament, and in all four of his appearances on the tour Down Under.
England take on New Zealand in their second Pool A game in Wellington, starting in the early hours of Friday morning, though he may stand a better chance of inclusion in the side for the third game against Scotland in Christchurch, starting on Sunday (10am).
Meanwhile Kent all-rounder Adam Ball claimed 7-35 in a 12-over spell for Redlands Tigers in their Queensland First Grade game against Western Suburbs.
Elsewhere Sam Northeast struck 94 for the Sunshine Coast Scorchers, while Matt Hunn took five wickets and Mitch Claydon rattled 63 for Newcastle City in New South Wales, though team-mate Charlie Hartley has returned to the UK for treatment on a back injury.
Kent youngsters Hugh Bernard and Ryan Davies have been selected for the England under-19s touring party to play a five-match one-day series and a four-day match against Australia under-19s in Western Australia next month.
