Whitstable joint-manager Danny Ward has described Saturday's FA Cup preliminary round tie at Walton Casuals as “an accident waiting to happen” because the Surrey club are bottom of the table with no points from six matches.

However, Ward knows that if his side continue in their current form, then there will surely only be one winner.

The Oystermen have made their best start to the season since winning promotion to Ryman League, Division 1 South seven years ago, rising to fourth in the table after their two wins over the Bank Holiday weekend, 3-2 at Redhill on Saturday followed by a 3-1 success over Ramsgate at The Belmont on Monday.

Ward said: “I missed the two games over the weekend because I was attending a family wedding in Scotland but I’m told the two performances were excellent, with six goals and six points.

“We are a lot further ahead of where I expected us to be at this stage. I thought it would take at least a month to get the team settled into playing with each other and to our new style of play."

If there are no Cup replays, Whitstable will host Folkestone in the league on Tuesday.

Ward also confirmed the club have made a seven-day approach for Sittingbourne keeper Adam Molloy and can speak to him on Sunday.
