Canterbury Ladies charged into second place in the Investec Women’s Hockey League Premier Division on Saturday after a 3-0 win against Bowdon Hightown.

Sarah Kerly gave the home side the lead after 20 minutes, and then further goals in the second half from Dirkie Chamberlain and Anna Baker guaranteed Canterbury’s fourth win of the season.

They are now just three points behind leaders Surbiton who dropped their first points of the season in a 1-1 draw with Holcombe.

But Canterbury Men are continuing to struggle in the NOW:Pensions Men’s Premier Division. They suffered their sixth defeat in seven matches so far this season on Saturday, going down 4-1 to Southgate at Polo Farm.

Canterbury started well enough, with Chris Sleeman firing them in front after 22 minutes.

Southgate, however, took complete control in the second half, scoring four times without reply through Matt Guise Brown (2), Darren Cheeseman and Giulio Ferrini.
