New £1m Greenhithe Railway Station link upgrade proposed as part of £81m 'Little Hithe' new homes plan in London Road

A £1 million station link upgrade has been proposed as part of bolstered plans to transform a former quarry into a housing development.

The £81m scheme, dubbed Little Hithe, would see 187 flats built in the disused chalk pit near London Road, next to Greenhithe Railway Station.

It includes a mix of one to three-bedroom apartments with 247 parking spaces and an extra 50 spots for visitors.

Residents would also have direct access to Greenhithe Railway Station via a new platform link.

The developers behind the scheme have now teamed up with the county's largest rail operator, Southeastern, to offer added improvements to the scheme.

If approved, it would mean a further £1m would be put towards a new tree-lined link to the London-bound platform for pedestrians and cyclists.

As part of this process the road would be widened to 1.8m and new access points carved out providing access to both apartment blocks.

Also included would be other station upgrades such as new ticket barriers and machines. The developer hopes supporting the use of more sustainable modes of transport will reduce the harmful impact on roads and drains.

However, the current planning application also includes the potential to assist with improvements to local roads.

It has now been submitted to Dartford council for review by the company behind the plans, Imperial Corporate Capital.

The company says the project will result in around 227 direct and 199 indirect jobs.

It hopes to capitalise on its "strategic location" close to the A2 and Bluewater Shopping Centre and estimates it will generate an extra £4.3m for the local economy through added retail expenditure.

Of the new homes proposed, it is said 10% will be designated as affordable.
