Top tip last week Lordsbury Kerry duly progressed as I had suggested she would when winning on Saturday night at odds of 7-2.
While I had expected her to reappear in a graded race, she was entered by her trainer Gemma Davidson into an Open race for Puppies over 540 metres which saw her lead from trap to line holding on by a short head.
She looks a nice prospect at just 20 months of age and will win plenty of races here on this evidence.
Gemara may well be the next dog here to join the elite in top grade A1 over 380 metres after his win at A2 level at the weekend. After three wins in grade A3 recently, he made light work of his rivals on Friday night and was never headed on his way to a length and a half winning margin.
His time of 23.61 was reasonable enough and it may well be that the Racing Office may wait to see if he can win again in his current grade before upgrading him.
The Steve Gammon-trained dog has done well to progress all the way up from grade A7 in which he started his career here last October. The question now is will the last step on the grading ladder be one too far?
Clash Tune is on my list of favourite dogs at the track, so it has been pleasing to see her steadily improve after a lengthy injury lay-off.
Before her going lame in mid-May, she had been at the top of her game figuring prominently in Open races as well as top flight A1 and S1 graded races. Her return to racing some six weeks ago saw her finishing fifth twice and last on the other occasion. Such form lines are not in keeping with her usual high performance levels so to see her featuring more prominently on Saturday night when finishing second beaten by just a length was more like the dog I know.
For a greyhound of her quality the facts are that she has simply needed time to regain her form and she is just too good not to be able to win in her current A3 grade.
