Residents to battle McDonald's drive-through at London Road, Greenhithe

Plans for a drive-through lane at McDonald's in London Road, Greenhithe, have drawn opposition from residents who fear it will bring congestion, pollution, and rubbish to their streets.

An application from the fast-food chain was submitted to Dartford Council earlier this month, outlining plans for a "new drive thru lane, ground floor extension to building with new drive thru booths, new site access/egress, with the re-arrangement of the car park, a new patio area, bin store, and sub station."

While the application has drawn some submissions of support on the council's planning website, none of these provided further detail, and the overwhelming number of comments opposed the idea.

One resident of nearby Cobham Terrace said they already experienced problems with McDonald's customers dropping food bags and cups along their street, and they fear the problem will only get worse with a new drive-thru.

They added: "The traffic has increased year upon year in the area and I can now hear a constant traffic 'hum' day and night from my home.

"Cars queuing at a drive-thru will increase the amount of fumes in the air.

"We already have a Burger King drive through and another McDonald's one at Princes Roundabout.

"Please don't allow this application. As a local resident I am saying I have had enough.

"I don't really enjoy living here any more. Shame as it used to be a beautiful place. It's ruined now."

Another resident from Kemsley Close, Greenhithe, added: "Stop stop stop! KCC and DBC have completely ruined this area.

"This proposal is beyond comprehension, it will encourage anti-social behaviour, huge traffic chaos in an already dreadfully bad thought-out road layout, more rubbish everywhere and ruin this area even more. I cannot believe this is still being considered."

Another resident from King Edward Road, Greenhithe, added: "All this will do is increase traffic, plus even more pollution noise and more rubbish.

"It is totally unnecessary as we have Burger King no more than five minutes away and Bluewater."
