Flooding is making a Dartford road so treacherous
that frustrated residents have decided to film the chaos and show
it to highways chiefs.

Stone Parish Council says spells of bad weather make London Road
almost impassable to motorists, with water reaching several feet
deep. Some drivers are even opting for the pavement, creating
a danger to pedestrians.

The parish council filmed a section of the road during a recent
downpour which completely submerged the road surface.

Parish clerk Jennie Thomas said: "Many motorists chose to mount
pavements rather than cross the huge puddle, posing a real risk to
safety. The pavements were almost completely submerged, leaving
many pedestrians stranded while waiting for a gap in the cars to
cross, rather than risk a soaking from the spray of cars or
lorries."

The council plans to take the video to Kent County Council and
show it to those responsible for maintaining and ensuring the
safety of the county's minor roads.

They have been campaigning for the past year to find a permanent
solution to the problem, which they believe is caused by
Victorian drains struggling to deal with large amounts of
water.

He added: "We are in regular contact with parishes across the
area and we will be discussing the situation with them."
