The Showcase cinema in Bluewater will screen Blue Story after the chain reversed its decision to cancel screenings of the movie.

The film, about two young friends who become rivals in a London street war, was pulled from movie theatres across the country after several problems linked to its release.

In one instance, a mob of youngsters stormed a Vue cinema in Birmingham, some armed with machetes, triggering a huge police response.

Vue then cancelled all showings, citing 25 "significant incidents" in the first 24 hours.

Showcase announced it would be following in Vue's footsteps but hours later decided to reinstate it.

A statement from Showcase said: "We took the decision to temporarily suspend screenings of Blue Story to enable us to assess the situation.

"After careful consideration and discussions with the distributor in the last 24 hours, we have come up with a plan to reinstate screenings supported with increased security protocols and will be doing so from this evening."

The company added that people's safety is the "absolute priority".

However, Vue, which has a branch in Ramsgate, has stuck by the ban, following the major incident when seven police officers were injured in the mass brawl on Saturday evening and five teenagers were arrested, including a 13-year-old girl.

Other cinema chains including Odeon and Cineworld have continued to show the film despite the controversy.
