The Dartford Crossing bridge was closed after a single-vehicle collision involving a lorry around 9am.
A lorry shed some of its load in the accident, which caused two lanes of the QE2 Bridge clockwise to be shut, A282 southbound.
The lorry was towing a burger van before the crash, and two lanes remained closed as efforts were made to clear up grease spilled in the incident, along with debris.
Highways England spokesman Stuart Thompson said: "We're doing everything we can to clear it up, and want to ensure the lanes are as safe as possible before we reopen them."
Essex Police were also called to the scene.
