Members of the public banded together to detain a suspected car thief until police arrived.

The man was reportedly trying to steal a car from Eleanor Road in Dartford this morning at 5.20am.

He was discovered inside the car when police arrived after members of the public detained the suspect at the scene.

Following a search, attending officers seized a package believed to be class B drugs.

Bartosz Szczypczynski, of Burnham Crescent, Dartford was arrested and later charged with theft from a vehicle and possession of cannabis.

The 23-year-old was released on bail and is due to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, November 12.
