Most four-year-old girls hate bedtime, but for Lilly Costa her specialist bed is a lifeline.

Lilly, from Greenhithe, was born with spina bifida, a condition that stopped her spine from developing properly.

But her £5,500 bed was a loan from a charity, and in April it is being taken back.

Mum Sarah said: "Without this bed Lilly is unsafe and at high risk of injury as her legs are dead weights and pull her out of bed without her awareness.

"Before Newlife loaned us the bed Lilly had taken herself out of her room in the middle of the night and fallen down the stairs as well as hitting her head, this bed is Lilly's safe haven."

Lilly also suffers with hydrocephalus and the conditions cause a defect of the spine and excess water on the brain, because of this Lilly is a full time wheelchair user.

Her family has raised £2,000 so far and the charity plans to help them continue to fundraise beyond the cost of the bed to support Lilly.

On February 27 there will be a party at The Royal British Legion in Greenhithe.

Donations at the door, the event runs from noon to 5pm. The hall will be full of stalls selling tasty treats and handmade products, as well as a BBQ.

From 6pm to midnight it will be transformed into a disco with a DJ, raffle and auction.

Bluewater-based Lola's Cupcakes has donated some vouchers and the Disney store has donated several prizes for the raffle from limited edition toys to Xbox games.

If you would like to donate prizes for the raffle/auction or have a stall contact Sarah Richardson on or email srichardson402@gmail.com.
