Group of children caught spitting at and kicking swans at Bluewater

People have slammed a group of "disgusting children" after they spat and kicked swans at Bluewater.

One shocked man took to Facebook to tell of the "disturbing" scenes he saw at the Greenhithe shopping centre on Saturday.

Curtis Southam was with his partner when he saw a group of around seven youngsters attempt to attack the animals.

He claimed they were producing phlegm and spitting at them, as well as trying to kick them outside the food hall.

He said: "Absolutely vile. I have said something to them as it's disturbing and abuse."

Bluewater confirmed the incident, and added that the Swans were unhurt.

Spokesman Melanie Battolla said: "We take all reports of harmful behaviour to our wildlife very seriously. Our outdoor rangers maintain our green spaces and habitat and regularly patrol the outside areas.

"We can confirm that our swans were unhurt following this incident."

One Facebook user praised Mr Southam for stepping in to say something to the group.

Paula Rivett said: "Oh my god, that's absolutely disgusting behaviour. Well done Curtis for saying something."
