A backpack found on the Dartford Crossing has caused traffic chaos.
All drivers were stopped from entering the county from the Essex side of the crossing approaching Dartford.
A police spokesman said officers were called shortly before midday following concerns about an "unaccompanied backpack" located near the QEII Bridge.
They added: "Officers have seized the bag and no suspicious circumstances have been identified.
"A road closure was enforced as a precaution and has since been lifted."
The clockwise M25 was queuing from the bridge back beyond junction 31 for Lakeside.
National Highways said three mile queues are building heading into Kent and have warned drivers to expect delays of about 45 minutes.
