Dartford man dies in bin lorry crash on Swanley Lane, Swanley

A 19-year-old man has died in a bin lorry crash.

The cyclist from Dartford was declared dead at the scene after a collision on Swanley Lane, Swanley.

Police were called to the fatal crash involving the young cyclist and a refuse lorry at 11.30am yesterday.

The incident on the junction of New Road and Swanley Lane was also attended by South East Coast Ambulance Service and an air ambulance team.

Sevenoaks District Council, whose refuse vehicle was involved, said: "The emergency services did all they could at the scene, but sadly, the cyclist passed away soon after the accident.

"Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the man’s family."

The victim's next of kin has been informed and police are still investigating the circumstances of the incident.

The council added: "Our thoughts are with all those involved or affected by this accident."

Swanley Lane remained closed in both directions due to accident investigation work between B2173 Bartholomew Way and Downsview Close throughout yesterday afternoon.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing to anyone who witnessed what happened, or who has dashcam footage which may assist, to contact them.
