Dartford man George Webb from Big Fat Gypsy Weddings on fraud charges

12:42, 24 January 2013

A Dartford man who appeared on Big Fat Gypsy Weddings and The X Factor has been charged with five counts of fraud by false representation.

George Webb, 28, of Hillside in Darenth, was charged with the offences - that relate to hundreds of pounds of clothing - yesterday after being arrested in October.

Webb appeared on X Factor performing I Can't Stop Loving You, by Elvis Presley.

He was also featured in the Channel 4 show Big Fat Gypsy Wedding in March last year.

Mr Webb restores caravans for a living and is separated from his non-traveller wife of seven years.

The show saw Webb being concerned that his two children would become more like "gorjas" - non-traveller folk.

In a bid to keep their gypsy identity alive, he dressed them in traditional clothes and took them hedgehog hunting.

His co-accused was also charged with one count of fraud by false representation and one count of dangerous driving.

The counts of fraud relate to clothing worth more than £1,000 from M&S at Bluewater, M&S in Gravesend, John Lewis at Bluewater and M&S in Tunbridge Wells.

The arrest was made at Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre, in Gillingham.

Both Webb and his co-accused are on bail to appear at Medway Magistrates' Court on April 8.
