Dartford boss Tony Burman says the profits from former striker Cody McDonald’s transfer deadline day move from Norwich to Coventry will help pay the bills at Princes Park and improve the Darts squad.

The Darts stand to make at least £50,000 from a 20% sell-on clause included in the deal, which saw McDonald (pictured) sign a three-year contract at the Ricoh Arena, but Dartford officials were this week still waiting to find out the exact figures involved.

He said: "The money will take the pressure off and help towards the running costs of the club, but I hope some of it will also go on improving the squad.

"We are still waiting to hear from Norwich about the details, but they have always been very good in all their dealings with us about Cody and have always treated us like any other professional club.

"We won’t get all the money in one go, though, as transfer money in deals like this is never paid up front."

McDonald, 25, scored 19 goals in 20 games for the Darts after joining from Maldon Town in October 2008, before moving to Norwich four months later, scoring four times in 25 appearances.

Last season McDonald joined Gillingham on a season-long loan as part of the £600,000 deal that took Simeon Jackson the other way, and hit 25 goals in 41 games at Priestfield.
