The Dartford tunnel was closed last night for fire-crew training.
Kent Fire and Rescue created a simulation an incident in the tunnel where they needed to suppress and fire and remove casualties.
They completed the incident in the east tunnel and traffic was directed on to the QEII Bridge which ran in contraflow overnight, between 9pm and 6am.
Drivers can expect over-night tunnel closures every day this week with maintenance.
The tunnel was re-opened at 6am, despite a faulty sign saying it was closed this morning.
