A foal was found dead in a field with its torso ripped out the day after being spotted "in good health".
The RSPCA was made aware of the situation after the grim discovery in a field off Fairlawn Crescent in Greenhithe.
It was later revealed it was a fourth-month-old piebald foal and was found lying on its side "with a large wound to his torso".
The charity also mentioned the foal, which was found on Sunday, November 10, was seen "in good health" the day before and had no history of being unwell.
Investigating RSPCA inspector, Kirsten Ormerod, said: "There was no obvious signs of ill health from what I could see looked in good body condition.
"It is possible he had died from natural causes and then unfortunately been scavenged on but his owner is understandably concerned so we are appealing for anyone with information to come forward."
Anyone with information is asked to call the appeals line in confidence on 0300 123 8018.
