An unlicensed driver pulled over in a "boy-racer" hotspot was found to be over the limit with beer cans in the car.

Matas Gasperavicius, 26, was stopped at Crossways Boulevard in Greenhithe where police had been increasing patrols as they cracked down on nuisance drivers who meet in the area.

Neighbours have reported seeing motorists speeding, driving dangerously and have been subjected to excessive noise late at night.

They have long-complained of modified cars whizzing up and down between the Dartford Crossing and nearby Bluewater shopping centre at speeds of up to 80mph.

The limit is 40mph.

Gasperavicius, of Dover Road, Northfleet, was pulled over in his Seat Toledo at about 11pm on September 17 as his rear lights were not working.

Officers did checks on him and his vehicle and found he didn't have a full licence or insurance to drive it.

When they spotted beer cans in his car they decided to give him a breath test, which he failed.

Gasperavicius, was arrested and later charged with driving without a licence or insurance and while under the influence.

He admitted all three offences when he appeared before magistrates in Medway last week, October 19.

The court heard he have a breath test reading of 41 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Neil Sweeney, prosecuting, said: "He has no previous convictions and it was a very low reading."

Defending himself, Gasperavicius, a construction worker, said: "It was a stupid mistake.

"I've had my provisional licence for a year and was due to take my test in December."

Magistrates banned him from the road for a year and fined him £500.

He must also pay a £200 victim surcharge and £85 in court costs.

His licence was endorsed and, if he completes a drink-driving course, his ban will be reduced by a quarter.
