Pensioners targeted by suspected fraudster at Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford while paying for parking

An investigation has been launched after a pensioner was targeted by a suspected fraudster while visiting a hospital.
A warning has now been issued to visitors, staff, and patients to remain vigilant following the “isolated incident”.
Police officers were called to Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford to reports of theft and fraud after a pensioner in his 80s was approached by a man while paying for parking.
The suspect offered to assist the elderly man and while he was distracted his bank card went missing.
An unsuccessful attempt was later made to withdraw cash from the pensioner’s account.
The Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust, which runs the hospital in Darenth Wood Road, said the man “attempted to deceive a patient by falsely claiming that payment was required for disabled parking”.
It has since reminded visitors that disabled parking is free and any claims suggesting otherwise are false.
A spokesman for the hospital, which is running on the highest level of alert amid winter pressures, added: “We urge all patients, visitors, and staff members to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious activity.
“If you encounter anyone attempting to collect payment for typically free services, please do not hesitate to contact the hospital's security officers.
“Your cooperation is essential in maintaining the safety and well-being of our community.”
The isolated incident happened at around 11am last Saturday (December 16) and was reported to the police who are investigating.
Anyone with information that may assist inquiries is asked to call the force on 01474 366149, quoting reference 46/221654/23.
