The family of a motorcyclist who died in a crash near the Dartford Crossing have described him as "a brilliant husband and a great friend".

Matt Pilgrim, 31, died on the A282 on Thursday, June 15.

An inquest at Archbishop's Palace in Maidstone today heard how he had been riding a Honda motorbike when he collided with the back of a lorry while filtering through traffic.

He was thrown from his bike, suffering multiple injuries.

The court heard that surrounding vehicles were within their lanes.

Coroner Roger Hatch said the evidence was clear that Mr Pilgrim, from Chelmsford in Essex, had misjudged the distance between his bike and the lorry and the principle cause of death was a severe head injury.

Hatch concluded he died as the result of a road traffic collision.

In a tribute issued after the inquest, Mr Pilgrim's family said: "Matt was not 'beige', he shared his light and laughter with everyone he met.

"He was a brilliant husband to Dimi, fantastic father to their children, a loving brother and amazing son. A great friend to so many.

"No matter how far apart from all the Pilgrims, Beevers, PGL family, friends and extended family you will be forever and always in our hearts.

"Matt Pilgrim is now flying high with the Superheroes."
