There are fears a large water leak will turn a road into an ice rink tonight, leading to treacherous conditions for drivers.

Water started running down Gore Road in Dartford, near to Darenth Country Park, on December 23, and still continues to flow more than a week later.

It appears to have sprung from former road repairs and is collating at the bottom of the hill in a puddle which cars are driving through.

Terry Usher, who lives nearby, is concerned with temperatures dropping at night, the water will turn to ice and create dangerous driving conditions.

"It is a very big leak," he said.

"It is running down the hill and forming a big puddle. We now have weather warnings and that could turn to ice.

"There is a blind bend there too so it could be dangerous.

"Something needs to be done."

Mr Usher, 62, reported the leak to police, as he did not know which water company would be responsible.

But a spokesman for Thames Water confirmed the leak has also been reported and repairs are expected to take place early next week.

The spokesman said: "A suspected leak in Gore Road has been reported to us and engineers will visit to carry out a repair by early next week."
