More than 20 firefighters have been battling a blaze near a wildlife park.

Fire engines from both Dartford and Thames-side fire stations were called to an outbuilding near Eagle Heights in Eynsford at 11.10pm last night after reports of smoke, which was billowing from a single storey farm building fully engulfed in flames.

They were stationed in the Eagle Heights car park during the incident, as crews wearing breathing apparatus battled hard for several hours to bring the fire under control, using two main jets, four hose reel jets, and a bulk water carrier.

A height vehicle was also used to provide a view of the fire from above and to put water onto the blaze.

As there were diesel tanks and cylinders on the site, crews had to set up ground monitors to cool them down and used thermal imaging cameras to take temperature readings.

The incident was scaled down to two fire appliances at 2.43am and just before 6am crews were damping down hot spots, leaving the scene shortly after 7.30am.

The building, which was used as an agricultural store, was completely destroyed.

The cause of the fire is being investigated and firefighters will revisit the site this morning.

Eagle Heights is open as normal.
