The heat kept fire fighters busy last night, with blazes breaking out all over the borough.

Crews were called to Stonechat Mews, Greenhithe, at 6.45pm for a fire in the field behind the houses.

Around 200 sqm of grass burned and the fire was extinguished within an hour.

Later Dartford fire station received reports that a large pile of tyres were alight in Barnfield Park, New Ash Green.

Crews went out at 9.06pm and tackled the blaze for an hour.

At 12.15am the fire fighters were called out again, this time to Willow Road for a garden which had caught light from a bonfire left unattended.

It took 30 minutes to put out and there was no damage to the house.

Nobody was injured in any of the fires and none of them are thought to be suspicious.

One of the crew working last night said: "We often get lots of fires of this nature in the hot weather.

"People need to be careful when barbequing or dropping matches in grassy areas. The ground is very dry and easily catches fire.

"Bonfires must always be monitored."
