Coronavirus Kent: Darent Valley Hospital's first positive Covid-19 patient leaves for home after becoming unwell in Venice, Italy

A hospital's first Covid-19 positive patient has been greeted by a huge round of applause from staff after being discharged.
Dartford Uber driver, Biniam Kidane, 43, left Darent Valley Hospital today after almost three weeks in hospital and spending time critically ill in intensive care.

Biniam, originally from Eritrea and has lived in the UK for the last 15 years, became unwell after a holiday to Venice to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
He was admitted to the hospital on Sunday, March 22.
When his health deteriorated he was moved to ITU were he spent 12 days on a ventilator.
Biniam's condition improved steadily and on Tuesday he was moved from ITU to the Beech ward where the news was shared that he was well enough to be discharged home back to his wife and children.
He walked through the hospital accompanied by doctors and nurses to warm applause from staff lining the corridors.
On Facebook, Darent Valley Hospital said: "We wish him a speedy recovery, well done to all the staff involved in his care and all of our other patients."
