Thousands of pounds has been raised in memory of angling enthusiast Jack Morrisson, who was found dead in a lake.
The 16-year-old, former Longfield Academy pupil from Hartley died over the weekend, while out fishing at lakes in Sutton-at-Hone, near Dartford.
His angling club, of which he was a member for eight years, set up a Just Giving appeal to help his family cope with his death and pay for the funeral. They had a target of £7,000, but £9,000 has been raised.
His body was found after an extensive search by emergency services.
The teen had been at the large lake, controlled by the Dartford and District Angling and Preservation Society, for a night fishing session.
Society treasurer Steve Butler set up the Just Giving page on behalf of the club.
He said: "Jack was a valued member of the society, and had been a member since 2008 when he was just eight years old and enjoyed his fishing on our venues with his mates.
“He was a very keen angler and very proficient. The whole club is in shock given the tragic circumstances.
“The society is doing everything we can to support the family.
“We were very proud to have Jack as a member here. He was a really nice lad, a kind loving boy who was so passionate towards his fishing and the wildlife that surrounded him. Jack was mature beyond his years and always had a big warming smile to greet everyone. We are all devastated by his death as a result of some terrible accident.
“We allow experienced over 16 to do night fishing and Jack had been finishing since Thursday night, but it was Friday morning when he got into some sort of trouble.
“He wasn’t a little kid who didn’t know what he was doing. He fished there on an almost weekly basis for years.”
The page already had £2,000 within the first two hours of launching on Monday.
