There are huge queues on the approach to the Dartford Crossing due to a crash involving three lorries on the Essex side.
The incident is affecting traffic on the M25 anticlockwise at Junction 28 near the Brook Street Roundabout, Brentwood.
Two lanes are closed and traffic is queuing for eight miles up towards junction 30 for the Dartford Crossing.
National Highways says this is likely to add more than an hour to usual journey times.
There is also slow moving traffic on the Kent side at the A282 anti clockwise heading towards the Dartford Tunnel.
Drivers are being told to allow extra time for their journey.
