One of the great pleasures when you’ve scored a goal is reading your name in the newspapers the following day.

Unfortunately, I was denied that pleasure last Sunday because all of the media covering our match against Peterborough United had, incorrectly, awarded our third goal as an own goal.

I don’t know what they were thinking. Of course my shot took a deflection off a defender on its way into the net, but everyone knows that if the shot is on target than it goes down as the striker’s goal. And it was definitely on target and going in anyway.

I couldn’t wait for it to come up on Sky Sports that I’d scored - I haven’t got that many this year, so my goals are a bit like collectors’ items this season!

The club has told me that it’s recording the goal as mine, so that was good to hear, at least.

But it’s frustrating because regardless of how well you play, forwards are always judged on the number of goals they score – and that one is mine!

I haven’t had an easy time at Charlton this season. The fans haven’t seen the best of me yet and I’m the first to admit that my performances so far haven’t given them a lot to cheer.

They were great to me on Saturday, during and after the game, but I’m not getting too far ahead of myself. I think I did well when I came on against Peterborough, but it’s just half a game and I need to get my head down and play as many games and get as many goals as I can.

Last Saturday was a lot better than the previous weekend, though, when I wasn’t even in the squad which travelled to Yeovil Town.

You don’t feel part of the team when you’ve not travelled with them, but it does motivate you to work harder in training and in any reserve games held behind closed doors and wait for your chance.

That chance came against Peterborough courtesy of injuries to Joe Anyinsah and Paul Benson, and their misfortune is my opportunity.

In football, you’ve got to be prepared to take those chances when they come along, though, and hopefully I showed the manager what I’m all about.

I’m under no illusions that one goal and one good 45 minutes means a recall to the starting line-up, but it’s a step in the right direction.

With tickets just £5 on Saturday for the Exeter game, it looks like being a great day with a terrific atmosphere, so if you haven’t got your ticket yet, what are you waiting for?
