The black and orange KTM Duke motorbike later joined the M25 near Dartford where it is alleged to have travelled against the flow of traffic.

At around 4.05pm on the anti-clockwise carriageway near junction 3 for Swanley, the motorcycle collided with a roads policing constable who was out of his vehicle.

The officer suffered serious injuries and was taken to a London hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

A suspect was arrested later the same day in Dartford.

Charlie Bishop, of Hillhouse Road, Dartford, was charged yesterday with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, causing serious injury by driving dangerously and aggravated vehicle taking.

The 26-year-old was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court today where he was remanded to a hearing at Woolwich Crown Court on February 22.

Since the incident, messages have flooded in on social media as policing teams across the country and members of the public wish the officer a speedy recovery.
