When Tierney Hinde checked into her holiday chalet, she was delighted to be spending her first trip away with her young autistic son.
But her excitement lasted minutes when the 28-year-old discovered mould on the walls of the Pontins apartment and stained and dirty bed linen, she said.
It got worse when they complained and were offered another room, which appeared to have blood splattered on the windows at the Camber Sands resort.
Ms Hinde, of Chapel Drive, Dartford, said: “It’s really upsetting for me to say, but it was our first trip away and it was disgusting.”
The mother of four-year-old Presley said she chose Pontins over the Butlins and Haven resorts because of the locks kept on its chalet doors.
Presley, due to his autism, has no sense of danger and will run off if he is not monitored.
Due to concerns over her son’s safety she booked a ground floor chalet, but on arrival was unhappy with the condition of the accommodation and was offered the "blood-stained" room.
The windows were cleaned off but as Miss Hinde had predicted, the second floor chalet proved dangerous and Presley, who has poor coordination, fell down the landing steps.
Miss Hinde was also frustrated by the lack of activities available for her son.
She said: “Pontins should be getting involved with all of the kids and it wasn’t like that at all. All he wanted to do was go towards the arcades because there was nothing else for him.
“I went there when I was 15 and nothing had changed since then and they were supposed to have had a rebirth in 2011.”
Miss Hinde was so upset with her experience that she left after only three days - four days earlier than what she had planned and paid for, having spent more than £500 on the trip.
She has since been offered 50% off and VIP treatment during her next Pontins stay.
However, Miss Hinde said she would not go back to the resort and is far than impressed with the compensation.
She said: “It was supposed to be the first trip with my son but it was a farce that’s all I can say.
“I nearly cried, I don’t really get like that. But it was just a complete waste of time.”
Attempts to contact the holiday firm for a comment were unsuccessful.
