The opening date for a multi-million-pound football-focused entertainment centre backed by former England and Brazil internationals has been revealed.
Rio Ferdinand, Bobby Zamora, Roberto Carlos and Mark Noble previously teamed up for the launch of the first Ballerz air dome at Bluewater Shopping Centre, near Dartford.
Construction has now finished on the football dome, which sits on the Upper Thames Walk car park – next to the entrance to the Showcase Cinema and Gravity trampoline park.
Final preparations are now taking place ahead of the grand unveiling in May.
Around £3 million has been spent on creating the centre which is expected to attract 250,000 visitors in the first year and create 50 new jobs.
Ballerz co-founder and property consultant, Nick Weir, said: “We have brought together a passion for the game and teamed it with a premier all-day entertainment venue and the latest technology - to create a new concept for both kids and adults.
“There has been a significant move towards competitive socialising in the hospitality industry - yet there remains a gap in the market when it comes to football.
“The trend is expected to grow further over the next five years, and we have plans to expand the Ballerz brand to other areas of the UK and internationally.”
Rio Ferdinand added: “Ballerz brings the thrill of the game to life. It is designed to provide entertainment in a competitive space and to inspire the next football generation to have fun, get active and enjoy developing their skills.”
The 30,000 sq ft arena has been designed by top former professional football players and coaches and promises to be one of the most immersive, competitive socialising experiences in the country.
It will feature a state-of-the-art, seven-a-side 5G football pitch complete with Premier League-style changing rooms, stadium-style seating and players’ tunnel and have the ability to show instant replays pitch-side.
There will also be a skills zone where guests can play a series of games designed to test out their skills and a “Robokeeper” to try shooting against.
