Overnight closures on the A2 will be in force starting tonight as part of ongoing £112m upgrades to two key junctions.
The works to the Bean and Ebbsfleet interchanges, near Dartford, will last throughout the last two weeks of September and into early October.
The first of the closures, which begin at 9.30pm tonight, will take place each night this week until 6am on Saturday morning.
This will see the A2 coastbound carriageway between the exit and entry slip roads at Bean, A2 London-bound entry slip road at Bean, two-way traffic lights on A296 at Bean, A2 London-bound exit slip road at Ebbsfleet and A2260 northbound at Ebbsfleet closed.
On Saturday, September 25 the A2260 at Ebbsfleet southbound and the A2 coastbound entry slip road at Ebbsfleet will be shut.
The following week various closures will take effect.
- Monday, September 27 – Two way traffic lights on A296 at Bean, A2 London-bound entry slip road at Ebbsfleet and A2 Coastbound exit slip road at Ebbsfleet;
- Tuesday 28 September – Two way traffic lights on A296 at Bean, A2 London-bound entry slip road at Ebbsfleet and A2 Coastbound exit slip road at Ebbsfleet;
- Wednesday 29 September – A2 London-bound entry slip road at Ebbsfleet and A2 Coastbound exit slip road at Ebbsfleet;
- Thursday 30 September – A2 London-bound entry slip road at Ebbsfleet and A2 Coastbound exit and entry slip roads at Ebbsfleet;
- Friday 1 October – A2 London-bound entry slip road at Ebbsfleet and A2 Coastbound exit and entry slip roads at Ebbsfleet;
- Saturday 2 October – A2 Coastbound entry slip road at Ebbsfleet
All closures will be in force from 9.30pm to 6am the following morning with signed diversion routes in place.
It follows a weekend closure last month which had to be postponed to install a new bridge as part of the major project to overhaul and increase capacity to reduce congestion around the Ebbsfleet, Bean and Bluewater areas.
Traffic was jammed for hours during the weekend-long shutdown of the carriageway.
