A pile-up and oil spill on the Dartford Crossing led to lengthy queues building up on the approach to Kent.
The smash involved two lorries and at least one car happened on the clockwise M25 QE2 Bridge, from Junction 31 for Lakeside and Junction 1A for Dartford.
Reports suggest there was also an oil spillage.
Traffic was held on the bridge so road officers could assess the situation. The crash has happened on the Kent side of the crossing.
Congestion was as far back as Romford.
All lanes were reopened just before 10pm but delays continued into the night. It is not known if anyone was injured.
